Youth and Junior Football

Nelson Eastern Suburbs FC prides itself in being an all-inclusive club that accepts children of all skill levels and backgrounds.

All children are encouraged to come along and have a go. We place emphasis on having fun whilst learning the 4 main components of football: 1v1, first touch, running with the ball, and striking the ball.  Training will consist of a game centred approach and as your child grows and develops training will be adjusted to the player’s needs. The importance of a game centred approach is to encourage players to make decisions within the game rather than the coach telling players where to run and who to kick to; with independent thinking being the desired outcome. This approach also assists in developing skills in areas such as communication, leadership, and teamwork.

Our coaches are all adequately trained and supported by our committee and technical director.

Our philosophy at Nelson Eastern Suburbs FC is to give all players an equal opportunity to play in all positions and fulfill several different roles within the team.

Training will be held at our home ground, Risdon Vale Oval, once or twice a week, Tuesdays/Thursdays depending on the coaches’ availability. U13/14 training from 5-6pm and U15/18 5-630pm.

The required uniform is included in our registration fees and consists of socks, shorts, and a training shirt.

Junior (age 5-12)

Nelson Eastern Suburbs FC junior program plays within the Eastern Region Junior Soccer Association. This is a participation-based region, and we encourage all players from all backgrounds and skill levels to join us.

We encourage a fun, safe introductory program for new players with weekly 45-minute training sessions that build skills through games and simple drills delivered in an engaging and encouraging environment. Every player gets plenty of time on the ball and the main aim of each session is for children to build fundamental motor skills.

We encourage the development of new friendships and social skills, inspire the practicality of teamwork, cooperation, fair play, and the respect for others. We will develop your child’s ability to make quick decisions and improve reaction time. Most importantly keeping children healthy and active.

Trainings will be held at Risdon Vale Oval on a Wednesday or a Thursday depending on coaches’ availability and the time will be at the coach’s discretion. Preferably, for younger children training time will be as soon as practicable after school hours.

Our uniform for Juniors, which is incorporated in our registration fees, consists of maroon shorts and socks.

Our youth and programs focus on small sided games for training, along with skill based work, with the included teaching of team roles and formations. Through playing in a team environment, your child gains valuable leadership and friendship skills, whilst also being active. Many of our current first team players have come up through our youth system and Nelson have become well known for excepting people of any skill level.
