Nelson Eastern Suburbs FC are excited to announce that Chris Barrell has been appointed as senior coach for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
Club President Steven McLarin, “The club and players are excited to have Chris aboard for the next two seasons, he brings a wealth of playing & coaching experience and will have the full support of the playing group and club .”
Chris is a previous winner of the State League Vic Tuting Medal in 1990 and brings years of experience both as a player and coach. Chris has been coaching since 1983 at youth level with various clubs and schools within Hobart. At senior coaching level, Chris started out as a player coach with Kingborough Lions, New Town Eagles and achieved success in 1993/94 at Glenorchy Knights, with the State League Reserve, winning the league title and final four series. Individually, Chris also won the State League Reserves Best and Fairest Medal.
More recently, Chris was involved coaching the Kingborough Lions challenge team in 2016. Chris has recently relocated back to Tasmania from Queensland and is looking forward to the challenge of coaching at a different club and working to improve the playing group.
The club would also like to take the opportunity to thank previous senior coach Adam Mills for his contribution in the role over the last two seasons, including taking the Club to a 5th place finish in 2017, and a strong performance in the State-Wide Cup, which included a historic club win over then NPL side Northern Rangers. Adam has chosen to step down but we expect him to stay involved with the club going forward.
